On the 4th July, Diageo Ireland is launching a new Budweiser campaign featuring a groundbreaking 60 second TV advertisement titled Lyrics. The ad won’t be shown in the US, but is worth a look as it has some incredible shots of Chicago.  It was filmed over 5 days from a train as it tracked around the city in often below freezing temperatures (no surprise there!)

RetroComedy.com posted the 15 Creepiest Vintage Ads of All Time.  I have to agree, these are very disturbing.  A few that I found particularly odd:

Not sure how I feel about this.  It’s either awesome, or a really bad idea.

These commercials by Jim Henson from 1957 to 1961 feature puppets promoting Wilkins Coffee in, shall we say, no uncertain terms.  This stuff would never be allowed on television now.  Well not as a commercial involving Muppets anyway.

In what I agree is a Hypocritical Move, Oprah has decided to give out free pieces of chicken to everyone.  Sure it’s grilled, but I would argue that it’s still not terribly healthy and for someone involved with PETA it doesn’t make much sense at all.

Don’t care about the ethics behind it and just want some free chicken?  Click here until May 19th 2009.

Oh, and “Hispanic people too” if you manage to watch it all the way through.   Local commercials are pretty horrible no matter where you live, but this one from a furniture store in High Point, NC  is a true stand out.

You get to choose your sock type (calf socks, knee socks, silk socks, sneaker socks or ski socks) and they now have underwear and t-shirt options.  A great idea if you’re a businessman who hates shopping!

Entrepreneur.com has a great article breaking down the differences that arise between generations in the workplace.  How if you’re a Baby Boomer, or a Gen X’er or a Gen Y’er, that affects the way you communicate.   Baby Boomers tend to rely on face-to-face and phone communication. Gen X uses email, cell phones and some instant messaging, and Gen Y likes to text and IM.

Throckmorton’s research has found that every generation wants one thing above all: respect. Gen Yers and millennials want respect for their ideas. Gen Xers want respect for their professionalism. Boomers want respect for their experience.
