“There is a storm being caused by gay marriage and we are all in serious trouble.”  Take that stupid hateful PSA’s.

In an unanimous ruling, the Iowa Supreme Court ruled that marriage is no longer limited to one man and one woman.  The decision makes Iowa the first Midwestern state, and the fourth nationwide, to allow same-sex marriages.  Gay marriage is expected to be legal in IA in 3 weeks.

Amen!  Enough said.

From the Huffington Post: …Now Ritchie, Bush and more than a dozen others are suing the federal government, claiming the act discriminates against gay couples and is unconstitutional because it denies them access to federal benefits that other married couples receive, such as pensions and health insurance.

All the plaintiffs are from Massachusetts and have marriages that are recognized by the state. They include a U.S. Postal Service employee who wasn’t allowed to add her spouse to her health insurance plan; a Social Security Administration retiree who was denied health insurance for his spouse; three widowers who were denied death benefits for funeral expenses; and a man who has been denied a passport bearing his married name.

Prayers that they can take this fight all the way and win. This is a LONG time coming.

Ken Starr, who led the campaign to impeach President Bill Clinton, filed a legal brief last month — on behalf of the “Yes on 8″ campaign — that would forcibly divorce 18,000 same-sex couples that were married in California last year before the passage of Prop 8.

Watch “Fidelity” and sign a letter to the state Supreme Court.  Tell the Supreme Court to invalidate Prop 8, reject Ken Starr’s case, and let loving, committed couples marry. DEADLINE: Valentine’s Day.

Caught this on TV last night while working out.  Ellen accepted a People’s Choice award for Best Talk Show Host and thanked “my roommate Portia”.

Exactly.  Thanks to back and forth legal wrangling over what should be a right for any two people in love to marry, Ellen and Portia are back to being “roommates” in the eyes of the law.  Even though they are so much more than that.

“The rights of the minority should never be voted on the direct democracy of the majority,” Etheridge said, quoting Thomas Jefferson. And just as Hasselback looked like she might renig on prior statements in defense of Prop 8, the View brought the conversation back to Melissa’s Christmas album. Boo. :(

But thank you Melissa for continuing to be an outspoken fighter in defense of equal rights. That’s right I said equal, not special… it’s what the whole gay rights movement is trying to accomplish.
