Slow news day?  Maybe, maybe not.  Anyway this made me laugh.

A chewed remote control, a dog, and $62.50 less in the bank account. For Greg Stroke, this could only mean one thing: his dog had purchased 5,000 Xbox points — worth $62 — while he and his girlfriend were asleep. Stroke saved his credit card information on his remote control to make it easier to buy video games using Microsoft Xbox points — so easy, in fact, that a dog could do it.

When the dog chewed the remote, the points were bought. “i just wish they’d make it a little harder to purchase points,” Stroke lamented.

Book of Odds is an interesting new site that lets you search for odds on just about anything.  For example, not that this is earth shattering but apparently golf is safer than mountain biking.

1 in 644
The odds a golfer will be injured while playing golf in a year are 1 in 644 (US, 2006).

1 in 838.7
The odds a mountain biker will be injured while mountain biking in a year are 1 in 838.7 (US, 2006).

But you should be much more worried when you golf than when you’re out in a thunderstorm:

1 in 1,230,000
The odds a person will be injured by lightning in a year are 1 in 1,230,000 (US, 2003).

Kelly Clarkson and Melissa Etheridge rocked VH1 Divas Live. Such a great song.  Watch the video:

On the 4th July, Diageo Ireland is launching a new Budweiser campaign featuring a groundbreaking 60 second TV advertisement titled Lyrics. The ad won’t be shown in the US, but is worth a look as it has some incredible shots of Chicago.  It was filmed over 5 days from a train as it tracked around the city in often below freezing temperatures (no surprise there!)

Hmm… I wonder why we have an obesity problem in this country? When you can buy a “sandwich” where 2 pieces of bacon and 2 pieces of cheese make up the filling and fried chicken is the “bread”, I stop wondering.

What happens when you have a camera on a timer and a very curious squirrel?  A great vacation photo.

I had my first Lollapalooza experience last weekend, and hands down my favorite band of the day was the one I knew the least about before the show.  They’re called The Low Anthem- a girl and two guys out of Providence RI that as it turns out are amazingly talented.

Each of them played multiple instruments, and would swap places on stage between songs to pick up whatever the next song required.  Each of them were doing at least two things at once at all times- singing, playing the harmonica, drums, the bass, a baritone, clarinet, old timey piano type of instrument I couldn’t identify, and other various musical apparatus.

At the end of one song, the singer picked up two cell phones and held them near the mike as he was singing.  What resulted were sounds sort of like birds chirping and a high pitched, windy noise in tune with the song… Which made perfect sense as the song was a melancholy tune about home (see a video below.  That blew me away… not only were they playing instruments I had and had not seen before, he was “playing” cell phones while singing.

“This God Damn House”

I am in music love with this group and would gladly pay to see them the next time they’re in Chicago.

The American Psychological Association is telling mental health professionals not to tell gay clients they can become straight through therapy or other treatments.  File this one under “All Things Obvious“.
